Who Is He?

You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. John 13:13

I think that I mentioned that I once spoke to a Women’s group about the names of Jesus. Until I did that study, I had no idea how many terms are used to describe our Savior or the tremendous number of ways in which He meets us and our needs.

A few of those names are…

Alpha and Omega – Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. Revelation 22:13; The Lord God says, “I am the Alpha and the Omega. I am the One who is and was and is coming. I am the Almighty. ” Revelation 1:8

Intercessor – “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died – more than that, who was raised – who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” Romans 8:34; “Consequently He is able for all time to save those who approach God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25

Good Shepherd – “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” John 10:11; “Now may the God of Peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep by the blood of the eternal covenant,” Hebrews 13:20

The Christ – (to be The Christ, comes from the Greek word Christos which means anointed and is the equivalent of the term Mashiach or Messiah, who is the promised deliverer of the Jewish nation. So, to be The Christ, is to be the Anointed, Savior, of God). But He remained silent and made no answer. Again the high priest asked Him, “Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed? And Jesus said, “I am, and you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming with the clouds of heaven.”

and finally Teacher – “We know that you are a teacher who has come from God” John 3:2; “You call me Teacher and Lord and rightly so, for that is what I am” John 13:13

There is no doubt that Jesus was and is our Teacher. Through His teachings in the scripture we not only learn to live our lives in a way that glorifies God, but we learn how to be forgiven by God and have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ Himself.

There are a number of religions, however, that would have us believe that Jesus is merely a “good teacher” and nothing else, not Savior, not Intercessor, not Son of God.

So, Who Is He?

There is a problem with the theory that Jesus is a mere teacher, because the scriptures teach us over and over that Jesus is the Son of God, He Himself praised His disciple for recognizing that He was the Son of God. He said to them, “and who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “you are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “You are blessed, Simon son of Jonah, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven” Matthew 16:15-17. Even Satan and his demons knew that Jesus was the Son of God (Matthew 4:1-3 & Matthew 8:28-29 respectively).

Jesus Himself admits to being the Messiah “The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.” John 4:25 & 26.

These are just a couple of examples of who Jesus was, above and beyond a good teacher. But the real crux of the issue is, he can’t possibly be just a good teacher. If He Himself professed being the Messiah, and he wasn’t, he then was a liar and would not have been a “good teacher”. In John 10 Jesus teaches that He and the Father are one and we see that He (Jesus) is the way to the Father in John 14. A mere “good teacher” would not be “one” with the Father nor would they be the only access to Him, again if He is not one with the Father or the only access to the Father, then this is a lie and again, he would not be a “good teacher”.

The reason these religions teach this is that Jesus was sinless, He healed, He loved and taught love, He forgave, He fed the hungry, how do you attempt to rob Him of His deity? How do you say “no, my God is the real one” when NO ONE has done what Jesus did? He came He forgave, loved and healed, etc., He died for the sin of those who couldn’t pay the penalty themselves (all of us) and was RAISED FROM THE DEAD AND IS SEATED AT THE RIGHT HAND OF THE FATHER! You can’t slander Him, because there is no bad thing to say that isn’t a lie. So, they choose a gentle way to say, “Oh, He was a good guy and a good teacher, just not God”. WRONG!!

So, Jesus is either who He says He is ….. The Son of God and Messiah. Or He is a liar and NOT a good teacher. When even an angel refers to Jesus as the Son of God – Luke 1:35. I think that I will believe the scriptures, the angel, and my Savior and, through faith and the personal relationship that I have with Him, I will KNOW (not just believe) that He is the Son of God and I will pray that those who think that He is just a “good teacher” would come to know the Truth and that He would become their personal Lord and Savior.

I pray that today, you would desire to know Jesus on an even more intimate level than you already do and that you would have a heart and opportunity to share with those around you that not only is Jesus the Son of God, but that He is also your personal and precious Lord and Savior.

If you do not know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page and pray the prayer that is outlined there. When you do, please reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-N-Loved.com and let me know so that I can be praying for you and can help you grow in your knowledge and relationship with Him.
