A Lot of people don’t realize that God communicates with His people. But, God calls us to love. God calls us to glorify Himself. And, He calls us to accomplish works for Him. We were created for this purpose. God planned works for us, before we were even created and He calls us to accomplish them. And when God calls, we really MUST answer.
We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for the works that He planned before hand for us to do. Ephesians 2:10.
But sometimes we don’t feel like there is anything that we could do for God, we are just unworthy. Scripture reveals that this is simply not true.
The Apostle Paul ,who was an incredible follower of Christ, called himself the chief/worst sinner.
“Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners–of whom I am the worst.” 1 Timothy 1:15.
The first time I heard that verse I thought “boy, is he wrong”. Because I was certain that I was the worst sinner. I had lived a life of consuming excessive amounts of alcohol, lying, cheating, adultery and rejecting God. So, I felt that I was certainly worse than Paul.
That is why I found it quite ironic that I would be seeking a church. But (just like with the Apostle Paul) God was calling me (as He is you, if you have found yourself on this page). And, When God Calls, We Must Answer.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock; if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20.
I searched for a Church because I felt that my children could still have a relationship with God and go to Heaven. Not because I felt that there was any hope for me. So we searched and we searched and finally our family found a church. We felt loved and welcomed the moment we walked in.
Very quickly we saw the hand of God at work in our family. Two of our five children accepted Jesus as their Lord and savior, within a very short period of time. But I still couldn’t wait for the oldest to make her choice. Our other two children were still little guys. So, we knew that they were safe in the Lord, but that oldest one, I worried about her. But, after a few months, she finally said ”I want to accept Jesus tomorrow”.
I was so excited to attend church the next morning. We were welcomed as usual and it was a wonderful service. I was extremely moved as the Pastor began to give the invitation to accept Jesus as Lord of our lives. “If you think you are too bad. Or you think that you have to get some things cleaned up in your life, before you can accept Jesus as your savior, your wrong” he said. “He loves and wants you just the way that you are. He is the one that will do the cleanup you just have to pray and ask Him to forgive you. “.
I sat, peeking out of the corner of my eye, to see if our daughter was going to follow through. Then I heard the voice of the Lord. For the very first time in my life….I heard His voice (not a booming of thunder, it was almost like a thought that I knew wasn’t mine). This was particularly shocking to me. Because we were only going to church so that my children could have a relationship with God. I wanted to know that they were going to heaven. I knew that I was too bad and too sinful to be forgiven. And, In my mind, there was no hope for me. But that isn’t what God said. When He spoke to me, suddenly, I realized that there was still hope.
Instantly, I began to pray. I prayed with all of my heart. I said “God, if you can find one good thing in me, it is Yours. If You will forgive me I will go wherever You ask. And, I will do whatever You ask of me. God forgave me that very moment. And because of that forgiveness, I have been trying to live out that prayer ever since. I will continue to live my life for Him until the day that He takes me home. This blog is part of that promise.
If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, I promise you that it is not because He doesn’t love and desire it. As He did with me, He wants to forgive you. He wants to give you a life of peace, joy and love that you cannot even comprehend. All it requires is a heart that deeply desires a relationship with Him. And that you pray a prayer similar to this, from the bottom of your heart. “Lord Jesus, I beg you to forgive me. I know that I have sinned and rejected you. I ask you to forgive me. And, because you gave up your earthly life for me, so that I could have eternal life with you, I promise to live my life to love, honor and glorify you. I pray these things in your precious name Amen!
