What the Future Holds

“Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. Leviticus 19:31

Remember when we were kids and we (or a friend) had a “Magic 8 Ball”? We would ask it things like “Are my mom and dad going to let us have a sleep over” or “Am I going to get that new bike I want for my birthday”? Oh, the weighty worries of our youth, lol.

The funny thing about an 8 ball is that the little floaty thing in the 8 ball is called an icosahedron (which means a 20 sided shape). On each of the 20 sides is a phrase, of those phrases there are 10 that have some version of “yes”, there are 6 sides that have some version of “I’m not sure, ask me again later” and only 4 out of the 20 sides have some form of “no”. That is a smart marketing strategy. No kid wants a toy that is going to consistently say no, lol. So, the “Magic 8 Ball” was created in such a way that children would only have a 20% chance of getting a “no” answer.

Then we got a little older and we learned our “sign”. Suddenly our horoscope would help us gauge the kind of day we would have. Similarly, our horoscope would say things like, “you will come in contact with someone who is unhappy, but your bright outlook will change their day” or “today you will be faced with a possible financial loss” or “your current relationship will have highs and lows today”. Ok, we will all come in contact with someone who is unhappy just about every day and we are all faced with financial loss almost daily, a bill comes in, we make a purchase, etc. and every relationship has highs and lows in a day. Those are the types of generic, one size fits all, horoscopes that people read every day to set the tone for their day. No wonder we have so many pharmacies and people being treated for depression.

Then there are the psychics. People go to psychics regularly, to find out what their future holds. There are two types of Psychics.

The absolute phoney who, just like the horoscope, is generic and one size fits all. They say things like “I see a relative named Bob or John who has passed on” Who doesn’t have a relative named Bob or John who died? Then this revelation is typically followed up by something like, “He wants the family to know that the conflict doesn’t have to continue and they should mend their relationships.” Yeah cause so few families have conflict.

Then there is the other type of Psychic. The one that people get goosebumps as they tell you about their experience. The one that tells them things that they have never told another living soul. The one that knows things that there is no possible way they could know.

The scripture is very clear on psychics. There are verses that warn us – “Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord.” Deuteronomy 18:9-12; “I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them. I will cut him off from his people.” – Leviticus 20:6; And, one of the sets of verses that is the most bothersome to me, is in reference to King Saul, who knew what God had said about mediums and psychics yet….”So, Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, “Please conduct a s’eance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.”(1 Samuel 28:8). Saul then asked the medium to conjure up the spirit of the deceased prophet Samuel, to ask his counsel regarding the pending Philistine attack. “And the king said to her, ‘Do not be afraid. What did you see?’ And the woman said to Saul, ‘I saw a spirit ASCENDING out of the earth.’ So he said to her ‘What is his form?’ and she said, An old man is coming up, and he is covered with a mantle. ‘Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground and bowed down” – Samuel 28:13-14. Notice that the spirit in this verse ASCENDED, it did not DESCEND like Samuel would have, coming from heaven. So who was this spirit and where did he come from? He came from the enemy.

In Acts 16:16-19 we also see a slave girl “who had a spirit of divination” (the ability to tell fortunes/futures) and the apostle Paul casts the spirit out of her. Again, not a spirit of God, not the Holy Spirit. This is a spirit from the enemy.

If a psychic is able to tell things that no one else should know and/or “What the Future Holds”, they got that information from someone and it wasn’t GOD! He told us to stay away from Psychics.

We were created by God, to have a relationship with Him. Even if we do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we know when we are disobeying God. And, we want someone to tell us it is going to be okay! Whether that is through a horoscope, psychic or even a “Magic 8 Ball”, we want to know “What the Future Holds”.

I can tell you “What the Future Holds” , not because I am a psychic, but because I read the word of God. “What the Future Holds” is an earthly life filled with hope, peace and joy and an eternal life in Paradise with our adoring Heavenly Father, if we know Jesus Christ as our Personal Lord and Savior.

I pray that you would look to no one other than the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), Jesus Christ, when you want to know the future. I pray that you would read God’s word and know who you will spend eternity with and where. And, I pray that you would be motivated to tell others about our Precious Savior, that they too might be certain of their future.

If you are wondering about “What the Future Holds” and you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I pray that right now you would go to our Life Preserver page and pray the prayer that is outlined there. Once you have done that I pray that you would contact me at admin@Forgiven-N-Loved.com and let me know, so that I can pray for you and help you grow in your knowledge of and relationship with Jesus Christ.

Luv Ya!
