What Does He Know?

Observe the commands of the LORD your God, walking in obedience to him and revering him. Deuteronomy 8:6

In my lifetime, I have seen the laws of our land go through some pretty odd changes. In the 80’s the drinking age was increased from 18 to 21, don’t get me wrong, I think this is a good thing. We also became a lot more strict with drinking and driving and over the course of time have lowered the allowable blood alcohol content level several times, also a good thing in my opinion. Yet you could be drafted and called to war to defend these laws at the age of 18. That didn’t seem to make a lot of sense. Then we have created laws that make it more difficult for people who smoke tobacco. In 28 states there are statewide smoking bans in all enclosed places. So, we create laws that make it more difficult to use legal drugs like alcohol and tobacco, yet in many states, we are now considering adding to our “legal” laws by making marijuana legal. It just doesn’t seem to line up.

Now, what does God say about these types of drugs? Proverbs 20:1 “says Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise”; Romans 13:13 says “Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy.”; In Proverbs 21:21 “He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness, and honor.” God tells us what the rewards of righteous living are. So we see that drunkenness (of any kind) is opposite that which God asks of us and He rewards our diligence in not partaking of that behavior…those rewards are life (eternal), righteousness and honor. Because drunkenness of any kind leads to a lower inhibition to sin and greater regrets in this life, God asks us not to do it, for our own good. But What Does He Know?

But, in my opinion, the greatest atrocity of modern day laws is the legalization of abortion and most recently to allow abortions of full term babies. The caveat with full term abortions are that a Dr. has to say that for the mother to deliver the baby would be a health risk. And that matters because the health care profession only has moral, doctors of good character and it would be so hard to find one who would lie and kill babies (Sorry, SARCASM). So we as a nation, yes nation because there are currently 8 states that allow full term abortion and others are contemplating it. have decided that human life really is disposable and has been devalued. Yet laws are becoming increasingly more strict and people are jailed on a regular basis for harming juvenile or for that matter any kind of domestic animal. So we can murder full term babies but you go to jail for murdering a dog. Not that I condone harming animals but certainly infant humans should have more value than juvenile puppies! What on earth is wrong with us?

Now, what does God say about this? “Thou shalt not murder” Exodus 20:1; “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart”; And old testament God said “if men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman’s husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.” Exodus 21:22-25. Keep in mind that this person’s judgement and consequences are meted out by God, not by us.

God values life in the womb, He knows each of us before we are born, He certainly does not condone abortion. There are consequences for our sin and murder is definitely a sin. Abortion is murder. Some of those consequences are sadness, mourning, guilt and shame and God doesn’t desire that we would suffer these consequences. So, He warns us about infidelity, promiscuity, adultery, etc., for our own good, but, What Does He Know?

He knows that He desires ABUNDANT LIFE for us – “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10. He knows that the consequences of sin such as drunkenness, addictions of any kind or abortion are guilt, shame, fear, sadness, mourning, and many others and He doesn’t want us to experience any of this. And He knows that man cannot be perfect, so He allowed His own Son to be sacrificed to suffer the penalty for our sins, that we might be forgiven. “But, if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9.

I pray that today we would seek God with all of our hearts; that we would not stray from His commands. Psalm 119:10. I pray that we would remember that this world is unjust, it is fallen and the laws of this country no longer reflect the will and desires of God. Let’s not be lulled into thinking that if our legislators say that it is ok, then it must be ok. Our laws are dictated by God and we are called to a higher and stricter walk in this life. Remember, they (those people who do not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior) will know us by our fruit (actions) – Matthew 7:16. And “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give an account. Hebrews 4:13. The more closely we follow God’s desires and will the fewer the consequences and the more we glorify Him. The more we glorify Him the greater the chance that those around us will be drawn to a saving knowledge of Him. So, go bear fruit!

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and desire being rid of the consequences of your sins in this life and forgiven by our Heavenly Father, I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page and pray the prayer that is outlined there. Once you have done that, please reach out to me so that I can be in prayer for you and help you grow in your knowledge of and relationship with our Precious Savior.
