We May Be Small but, in God’s Strength, We Are Mighty

If I were to tell you that there is a carnivore that was purported to be immune to snake, spider, and scorpion venom, and that it took possession of other animal’s dens and howled like a coyote just before a kill, what kind of animal might you guess it to be? Might you guess something in the lion or tiger family? Or would you think that it was more along the lines of a coyote or wolf? I bet you would never guess that it was a mouse! The grasshopper mouse is that ferocious carnivore. He is approximately 3-5 inches long. The grasshopper mouse is small but mighty!

I love that we can look at a cute little mouse (I know… not everyone thinks they are cute 😉 ) yet, in the heart of that tiny little mouse lies the heart of a fierce and ferocious lion.

We see God do similar things with people in the Bible.

King David would be a good example of someone that one might look at on the outside and think very little of. But God knows the heart. And inside, David had the heart of a warrior.

We have no proof of David’s exact age when Samuel anointed him but estimates are that he was between 10-15 years old. He was the youngest of Jesse’s eight boys. And he was clearly a lesser physical specimen than some of his older brothers. Scripture says (in 1 Samuel 16:7) that Samuel looked on “Eliab and thought, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before him.”  But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

Samuel’s older brother must have presented with the appearance of having Kingly qualities. Samuel called for David’s brothers. And they each came before him. But they left David out in the fields. It would seem that they considered David the least likely to be chosen by God to be king.

Isn’t that just like God!?!?

God chooses the man with a speech impediment or disorder to be the spokesperson to His chosen people. “But Moses said to the LORD, “Oh, my Lord, I am not eloquent, either in the past or since you have spoken to your servant, but I am slow of speech and of tongue.” Exodus 4:10.

He chose the lesser of all of Jesse’s sons to be King. “Jesse had seven of his sons pass before Samuel, but Samuel said to him, “The Lord has not chosen these.” 11 So he asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse answered. “He is tending the sheep.”. Samuel said, “Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives.” So he sent for him and had him brought in. He was glowing with health and had a fine appearance and handsome features. But, he was just a boy. A small — but mighty — boy.

Then the Lord said, “Rise and anoint him; this is the one.” Samuel 16:10-12.

He was such a mighty boy that he would go on to slay Goliath when an army of men could/would not.

But that is how God works. He chooses the lesser things (and people) because they bring Him the most glory when they do big and powerful things. This is because they are not doing them in their power. They are doing it in His.

“But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important.” 1 Corinthians 1:27-28.

So, the next time you feel like God is asking you to do something and you wonder whether you are strong, smart, or even capable enough, remember that God is the one that does the equipping. And, if He is calling you to do something, you are already equipped. It is not in your strength that God is asking you to do something. It is in His! We may seem small in our own eyes, but in God’s we are mighty. We have His strength, wisdom, and heart at our disposal. So, when God calls, don’t question your own abilities. Just say, “Here I am Lord. Send me.”

“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Isaiah 6:8.

Father, forgive us when you call and we question. Forgive us when you call and we don’t answer. Lord God, give us your heart. Help us to see those around us who are hurting and desperate through your loving eyes. Help us to desire to be a blessing to them and to glorify you in the process. We say, “Here I am Lord. Send me!” And, When we think we are small, incapable or insignificant, remind us that we may be small, but in your strength we are mighty. We pray this in your precious name, Jesus.

Do you think that you are too bad for God to want a relationship with you? Do you think that you have nothing to offer God? Maybe you even feel that you are small and insignificant. I used to think those very same things. What if you let God decide? Because He says in His word that He loves you and wants a relationship with you. He says that He wants to forgive you and adopt you as His own precious child.

So, I am asking you to go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined on that page… from the bottom of your heart. Because God promises that if we seek Him with our whole heart, we will find Him (Jeremiah 29:13).

Like the Grasshopper Mouse, we may seem small, but God created us to have the heart of a Lion and, in His strength, we are mighty! He wants a relationship with you and to help you see yourself (and others) through His eyes!

Please pray that prayer and once you have, reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-N-Loved.com and let me know. I’d love to be in prayer with and for you.

Luv Ya!
