The Rocks Will Cry Out
The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1
When I left work yesterday, the skies were a little overcast and there was a very slight, warm, breeze blowing. By the time I got home I could hear thunder in the distance, accompanied by the rustle of the leaves in the trees as the wind blew harder now, and the skies began to darken. Within moments those same rustling leaves were clinging to the trees with all their might as the torrents of rain came down in buckets and the wind blew fiercely now. The skies became extremely dark and the thunder rolled and rolled and rolled. We went from a warm, overcast, summer day to a cool, fierce, storm in less than an hour.
God’s creation can be both beautiful and dangerous. But it is so much more.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. In Genesis 1:1-27 we see God create everything from the heavens and the earth to the oceans, rivers and every creature on the planet including man. And then God places them in the Garden of Eden. The most perfect, beautiful place this side of heaven. God used nature to provide man with everything he would need in that garden. Then we blew it, lol…
Then in Exodus 14:21-31 we see God use nature (specifically the Red Sea) to protect His chosen people, the Israelites, and to destroy the Egyptians who desired their enslavement. Not to mention all the plagues that He used, stirring up nature, to unleash on the Egyptians.
There are days when He uses nature to send me an “I love you” message, with a gorgeous rainbow, sunrise, sunset or maybe a beautiful warm sun shower, and He sends it just when He knows that I need to hear from Him.
God has used nature, from the beginning, to meet man’s needs. Whether it was the Garden of Eden, the parting of the Red Sea, a simple rain that waters the crops of our farmers or an “I love you” message just when we need it, He has been providing for us through nature.
One of those greatest needs, that God has already provided for through nature, is our need for Him. He has been using nature since He created it, to reveal Himself, so that no one could say they didn’t know that He was God and that He created all that we enjoy. (“For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.” – Romans 1:19-20).
God’s creation, apart from man, knows that He is our creator (“The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. – Psalm 19:1.) and will praise Him if we don’t (“As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” Luke 13:37-40).
I pray that God would send you a special “I love you message” through His beautiful creation today and that it would motivate you to testify to His love and glory, to the world around you. I pray that the rocks would never cry out, because we failed to praise the Lord.
If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I pray that when you scan the expanse of our incredible creator’s masterpiece today, that it would take your breath away and that you would be drawn to Him like never before. I also pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page and pray the prayer that is outlined there.
