Superhero

Superhero

It would probably surprise most people (except my family) to know that I am a little bit of a nerd.  I have always been a fan of Godzilla, superhero(s), and even Star Trek and Star Wars. But I am not the kind of fan who stands in line for hours, dressed in costume, or attends comic conventions.  I am just the kind of fan who enjoys an occasional movie and collecting a stuffed animal or two (Baby Yoda and Baby Groot, anyone? 🙂 ).  But many people are fans in every sense of the word. They are actually fanatics.

And, when it comes to superheroes, everyone seems to have their own particular favorite. Some like Thor, some prefer Captain America, and still others are partial to Aquaman (my personal favorite since I was 3) 🙂 .

Surprisingly, it could actually be argued that man’s fascination with superheroes goes back to Greek and Roman Gods and beyond. But what is it that draws us to them?

To know that, we should probably look at what it is that they all seem to have in common.  They all seem to have two forms. One appears as a normal man and the other is somehow supernatural.  They also have the ability to rescue people from their enemies.  Superheroes always seem to fight evil.  Most are immortal.   And they risk their own lives and well being for common mortals.

Does any of this sound familiar? Does it sound like anyone you might know personally?

Deep in our hearts, we all want someone who can — and will — intervene when we are in trouble.  We want someone who can rescue us when we need help.  And immortality has piqued our curiosity from the beginning. In fact, God put it in our hearts. “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11.

But these superheroes are counterfeits.  The only true superhero is Jesus.  Everyone else is just a cheap knockoff.

He is fully man and fully God. “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14. And “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,” Colossians 2:9.

Jesus is the only one who protects us from evil. “3 But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3.”.

He is the only person ever to be dead for three days and then rise to life. “…that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,” 1 Corinthians 15:4.

And He is immortal! He still sits at the right hand of the Father in Heaven and intercedes on our behalf. He’s still fighting for us. “Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.” Romans 8:34

The world is fascinated by superheroes. Yet, they reject the one and only true Superhero, Jesus. He is more than a superhero. He is all that we will ever need.

Who is your favorite superhero? Mine is Jesus!

Father God, forgive us for seeking cheap knockoff substitutions for our precious Savior. Forgive us for wasting time being fanatics about the things of this world. Thank you for your love, mercy, and grace that provided us with a Savior, our own Superhero, Jesus. We love you and pray these things in your precious and holy name Jesus. Amen.

Have you been seeking a superhero? Needing someone to intercede for, protect, and watch over you? That person is Jesus! But, to have that kind of relationship with Him, we have to repent of our sins and ask Him to be the Lord of our lives. On our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/), there is a simple prayer of repentance outlined. Please check it out and pray that prayer. Make Jesus your own favorite Superhero!

Once you have prayed this prayer, please reach out to me and let me know. I’d love to be in prayer with — and for — you!

Luv ya!
