Spiritual Dry Spell
(to read more, click title)
There are a number of people in the scripture who are walking with, talking with, glorifying and serving God and then something happens and they falter. Maybe they falter and fall into sin, like King David. Or Maybe they falter and just have a spiritual dry season. A season where they stop serving, stop glorifying, maybe even stop praying.
The prophet Elijah had a season like that. He had witnessed God raise people from the dead (1Kings 7:22), pour fire from heaven to defeat worshipers of Baal (1Kings 18:38) and saw jars of flour and oil be miraculously filled over and over to feed a widow and son (1 kings 17:22). Yet, When king a Ahab’s wife Jezebel decrees that Elijah should be beheaded, he ran into the wilderness and stopped serving God.
Now…what was God’s response? His response was to allow Elijah a time of rest in the wilderness and to have a ravens miraculously bring food to him to sustain him. And after a while, God speaks to him and Elijah’s response is ….I’m the only prophet left, the people have all turned away from you, and now they are trying to kill me. Then God in his merciful way, explains that there are 1000 people who have not turned away and that Elijah himself will anoint a new king and along the way he’s going to give him Elisha, a brother, to accompany him so he’s not alone.
I’ve had spiritual dry seasons during my walk with Christ. I wish I could tell you that, like Elijah, it was because I felt alone and in danger, due to my fervent service to God. But it isn’t, typically it is our flesh, We get so complacent and comfortable in the bountiful blessings of God that We stop going to our knees and begin to feel like we’re sustaining ourselves and God gets pushed to the back ground. Sometimes it’s just the busyness of life. Sometimes like King David we fall into sin (figuratively not literally lol).
God has been just as merciful with me, during those times, as He was with Elijah. And I praise him for the way that He has welcomed me back every time.
Maybe you’re going through a dry season right now, I promise you that God is right there with you and if you’ll just open up His word and turn back to him He will wrap his loving arms around you and treat you as though you’ve never left.
If you’re not going through a spiritual try season I promise you that one is coming eventually, remember that God doesn’t want that for you and He is loving and merciful and wants to draw you back.
If you’ve never walked with God before, I pray that you would go to our life preserver page, pray the prayer outlined there and begin your walk today.
Praying God’s bountiful blessings on you today.
Luv ya!
“Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,”
