Poor Instruction

Have you ever had someone ask you to do something and then when you did it it wasn’t the way they wanted it, or they suggested that perhaps you really wanted to do it a different way (which is just code for “you did it wrong do it my way”), or they pick it apart slowly and the end result is that they ended up undoing everything that you did so that they could have it done their way. Most of the time, this type of person has given poor or vague direction, and simply doesn’t equip those around them fully, so that they always come out being the one who had to have their hand in everything. They simply provide poor instruction and this can be so frustrating!

The funny thing about those kind of people, is that they typically talk a lot about how everyone else falls short, no one works like they do, and they just have to do everything themselves.

The sad part, is that we can all be this way, even with our children. And whether it’s children or coworkers or subordinates in any area of life, we rob them of the opportunity to learn. We rob them of the opportunity for a job well done. We rob them of the desire to even try.

Ultimately, it’s a pride issue. It’s that “nobody can do it like me”, “nobody can do it as well as I can”, “my way is always better”, mentality.

And let’s face it, unless your God, that thinking is simply not true, it’s pride. And the scripture is pretty clear about pride and prideful people (The LORD Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled) Isaiah 2:12 NIV).

How awesome is it that our Heavenly Father doesn’t operate this way. He not only gives us instruction (through his Holy Word), But when we know Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives, He also provides us with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

So, when God asks or requires something of us, He has already given us direction through His word (
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-18). He’s equipped us with anything that we will need to accomplish the work (His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, 2 Peter 1:3) that He has already planned for us (For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10) and He’s provided the Holy Spirit to continually guide us through the process, to even tell us what to speak or think…(which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. 1 Corinthians 2:13).

His desire is that we would be successful and victorious in every task that He sets before us.

I pray that today we would be more mindful of the leading of the Holy Spirit. I pray that we would seek the leading of the Spirit not just wait for it. I pray that we would heed the leading of the Holy Spirit and that we would be filled with gratitude for all that the spirit endures while dwelling in us. And, I pray that we would praise our Heavenly Father for the incredible way that He provides, not just for our salvation but, for our walk through this life as well, all so that we might glorify Him and be used by Him to rescue others. Thank you Father!
