Motivation

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23

This weekend my husband and I stayed home and had a work day on Saturday. We both got a lot of work done. It’s funny how some weekends we have great plans for accomplishing a lot of work done and not much really gets done and then other times enormous amounts of work get done.

It is all about motivation. We recently had some work done around the house that got us both more motivated than we have been in a while, so a lot more got accomplished.

Let me ask you something…In your daily life, what is your Motivation? Is it more money, success, the adoration of our children or spouse or perhaps it is to just get through the next few years to retirement?

There are a number of verses in the scripture about motivation. Such as Colossians 3:23; 1 Corinthians 15:58 “Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain; 1 Corinthians 4:12 ” We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it.”; Romans 12:11 “Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.”;

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17

We are here, on earth, for such a short time. And our sole purpose is to glorify God and help others to have a relationship with our Glorious Savior. When we consider the plan that God devised – to have His only Son sacrificed to pay the penalty for our sin, the incredible suffering that our Savior endured and the misery that the Holy Spirit must go through daily, as He indwells us and has to be present during every sin that we commit, how are we not working for our Heavenly Father with all of our heart and strength? How are He and His glorification not our Motivation.

Everything that we do either brings glory to God or robs Him of it. If we are slothful and lack work ethic, it is a terrible testimony to our character and to God. If we are honest and hard working, we bring God glory. If we glorify ourselves to our children and/or our spouse we rob God of glory. If we accept their accolades, indicating that God is the provider of every good thing (even mamas and daddies) we bring Him glory.

I pray that today we would reflect on all that God has done for us and that His honor and glory would be our Motivation and that we would work diligently for Him (in everything that we do), for His glory, His purposes and for the advancement of His Kingdom.

If you do not know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page and pray the prayer that is outlined there.
