Memories
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26
If you ask most people, I think that they would say that memories are one of their greatest treasures.
When we speak of memories, we primarily attempt to remember and speak of good things and good times and they are usually a blessing.
We are very fortunate that God, when He created us, gave us brains that would store memories. Without them, we would forget that the stove is hot and get burned a second time, we would forget to look both ways when we cross the street and potentially get run over, we would forget the incredible things that the Lord has done for us and go back to a life of sin.
But He knew that and created us in such a way that those memories would be stored in our brains and, in the future, we would heed the wisdom found in those remembrances.
We would also forget sweet remembrances like holding our dad’s hand, the first kiss with our spouse, the first time we held our children or kissed their little foot or cheek. Precious memories like these would be lost.
I recently came across a video on line, the video was of one of our sons proposing to his wife at a minor league baseball game. Although I remembered how special that moment was, somehow, seeing it again and hearing their young voices again brought back a flood of emotion along with that memory. Emotions of joy, happiness and love.
I looked at those precious kids and remembered that sweet love that they had and the joy we all had watching it blossom. Those are such incredible memories of a beautiful love story.
Almost as beautiful as the love story that we (those of us who know Jesus Christ as our personal Savior) have.
We can remember the sin and rebellion that we were in before Him, but we shouldn’t dwell on that, because God has chosen to forgive and remember it no more. That isn’t selective memory, it is God choosing not to dwell on our sin or the consequences that we would have to suffer, were it not for the fact that Jesus paid the price of our sin on the cross.
The remembrances of God’s forgiveness and glory are something we should dwell on (Help us, O God of our salvation, for the glory of your name; deliver us, and atone for our sins, for your name’s sake! Psalm 79:9); the deep love that God has for us and that caused Him to devise a plan that would enable a debt to be paid (for our sin) that we couldn’t pay is something we should dwell on (For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23); Jesus mocking, beating, suffering and dying, to pay the penalty for our sin is something we should dwell on (For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit, 1 Peter 3:18); and eternity in Heaven with our loving Heavenly Father is something we should dwell on(In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? John 14:2).
Because of all that He has done, and the forgiveness that we have found in Him, we should want to share Him with those we love and those people around us. Their eternal lives are something we should dwell on (And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15).
I pray that today we would reflect, and dwell, on all that God has done for us. I pray that we would give Him the glory and honor that He deserves. I pray that because of all that He has done, we would dwell on being used by Him to share Him with those around us, that He might draw them into eternal life.
There is no more beautiful memory than the memory of what God has done for us and the depth and magnitude of His love and we should long to remember it, and even dwell on it. (Indeed, while following the way of Your judgments, O LORD, We have waited for You eagerly; Your name, even Your memory, is the desire of our souls. Isaiah 26:8)
If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined there. There is no sweeter memory than the memory of the moment that the Lord forgives us of our sin and adopts us as sons and daughters of the Most High God. Please pray and once you have, reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-N-Loved.com.
Luv Ya!
