Lord, Lord
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Matthew 7:21
We’ve all worked on projects that required Supervision and collaboration. We may have worked on that type of project and were not sure who the supervisor was or from whom we were to receive our Direction. Maybe we have known who the supervisor was, but they were just incredibly ill-equipped and ultimately inept to even take on the task of being the supervisor of the project.
Without someone (the right and qualified person) to give direction and to guide so that we know where to report, when to report, what the expectations are, so that we know the things that we should avoid and we know the best way to accomplish the tasks expected of us, a project may not only become chaotic but it will become burdensome, disorganized and could ultimately lead to destruction of the project.
Our lives and spiritual walks are the same way.
Prior to knowing Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, we were in control of our lives and I think it’s safe to say that we would all admit that this didn’t work out so well for us. In fact it probably resulted in our lives being chaotic, burdensome, disorganized and there was probably an element of destruction involved as well.
When we first came to know Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, however, we chose to make Him, Lord of our lives, or at least that is what we told Him and ourselves. We recognized that He is the risen Son of God, who paid our sin debt (that we couldn’t pay) on the cross. And we say that we will live our lives for Him, let Him have control and be Lord of our lives. Or, at least I hope we have done all these things.
But, have we really made Him Lord of our lives? And, if so, for how long?
When we come to the Lord and we repent and accept Him as Lord and Savior of our lives we Typically begin to live pretty fervently for God. But, fervency alone is not enough.
So, what does it actually look like for Jesus to be Lord of our lives.
The term Lord in the Oxford dictionary is defined as “someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.”. If I were to send out a poll to each of you, who read this blog, and say does that definition describe Jesus, we would all probably say “definitely!“.
Now let’s break down the term Lord a little further let’s think about what it would mean to be the “Lord of the Manor”.
The Lord of the Manor is the person who owns and lives in the manor. He is also the person that everyone whether employee, visitor, contractor, even royalty, would go to with anything that pertained to the manor. Nothing happened without his wisdom, nothing happened without his input, and nothing happened without his direction.
Thinking in terms of your heart being the manor house, would you now say that Jesus is Lord of your life?
Would you say that, nothing happens in your life without you taking it to Him, would you say that you seek His wisdom in areas that you are lacking, would you say that you seek His input in everything you do, would you say you seek His direction in all decisions?
Wisdom – “To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his. Job 12:13. Godly and Spiritual wisdom, power, counsel and understanding are God’s possessions. You can obtain them no where else, but through Him. When seeking theses things, they are simply a prayer away.
Input – In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:6.. If we are Acknowledging God in everything and every way, we won’t even have to seek them, they are a byproduct of our acknowledgement of His Lordship.
Direction – He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way. Psalm 25:9. If we have a right relationship with Him, we are humble and He teaches the humble and directs them in His ways.
When we were/are Lord of our own lives it didn’t, and never does, go well. It doesn’t go well because we are not the right and qualified person for the job. We proved that with the wreck that we made of our lives before Christ.
There is only one Lord for the manor house of our heart and that is Jesus Christ. (For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord both of the dead and of the living Romans 14:9).
If we say that we’ve made Jesus Lord of our lives, but we recognize that there are areas that we’ve held onto and that we’ve tried to Lord over, that’s some thing that we should repent of.
i pray that Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we would be fully aware of those areas of our lives that we are trying to be Lord of in our lives. I pray that right this moment we would repent of that attempt at circumventing Jesus Lordship. And, I pray that every decision, direction, action that we take we would lift up to Jesus and ask for His guidance. Even a decision as small as what color socks should I wear Lord. Because nothing should be decided with out consulting the Lord of the manor.
This attempt at Lordship over our own lives is something that should warrant some deep self examine. If we said that we made Jesus Lord of our life and if we go through the motions of being a Christian, but never truly turned our lives over to Him or if we’ve never even attempted to make Him Lord of our life, Jesus Himself tells us that when we get to Heaven He will say He never knew us (On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’).
God did not desire that we would bear the burden and weight of being Lord of our own lives. He said “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” which means that we should lay down the burden of guilt, shame and unconfessed sin and take up His yoke, which is repentance and freedom from guilt, shame and the penalty of our sin and let Him be Lord. I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined there. Jesus desires to forgive you, be Lord of your life and that your burden would be light. Please pray this prayer, and once you have, reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-and-loved.com, so that I can be in prayer for you.
Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord 1 Thessalonians 5:23
Luv Ya!
