Give ear, and hear my voice; give attention, and hear my speech. Isaiah 28:3
When my husband and I go shopping together I typically follow behind him, because I have to look at EVERYTHING, lol. The problem that typically presents itself is that when my husband speaks to me, I can’t hear him. First, he speaks rather softly and when you combine that with the fact that he is not facing me, it results in his speech being virtually inaudible and I end up saying “I can’t hear you”.
When someone we love, and who loves us, is speaking to us, surely we want to hear what they are saying. But, if we are not walking closely with them or not facing or beside them, we run the risk of not hearing them. Or, potentially misunderstanding what they have said.
We should be mindful of these things when we are having conversation with God. Because, if we are not walking beside Him, or facing Him, we cannot clearly hear what He is saying. Give ear, and hear my voice;
give attention, and hear my speech. Isaiah 28:3
Sometimes God whispers….(After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:12-13) which requires tremendous focus. And sometimes He thunders…(Have you an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like His? Job 40:9) which requires concentration.
He can speak condemnation (“While the word was in the king’s mouth, a voice came from heaven, saying, ‘King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is declared: sovereignty has been removed from you, Daniel 4:31), which we may not want to hear, but can be what reconciles us to Him.
And He can speak praise (and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” Matthew 3:17)
At times He will point us in a direction (And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Isaiah 30:21).
And at other times He will give us instruction (As it is said, “TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME.” Hebrews 3:15).
His speech is without error (“Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, or he will rebuke you and prove you a liar. Proverbs 30:5-6)
The point is God is speaking. How is He speaking, you ask? Through His Word (All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17)
Through His creation (For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:20 – NIV)
He speaks to us through the Holy Spirit and prayer (And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will. Romans 8:26-27 – NIV).
He even spoke through a donkey (Then the LORD opened the donkey’s mouth, and it said to Balaam, “What have I done to you to make you beat me these three times?” Numbers 22:28), lol.
We all have instances in which we strain to hear the message that a loved one is attempting to convey to us. How much more should we strain and strive to be close enough to God to hear His voice? His messages have eternal impact and consequences, there will never be a more important word spoken to us than those that come from the mouth of God. (So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11).
I pray that today we would have a new and vivid revelation as to how precious and vital the voice of God is to us. I pray that we would desire to draw as closely to Him as possible, allowing us to hear His voice and the message that He might have for us. How are we so busy talking, that we fail to even listen to our Loving Heavenly Father? I pray that we would be still and listen for His voice (He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10) and that we would never be so far from Him that we would say, God, “I Can’t Hear You”.
The God of all creation desires to speak with sinners, such as I am, how is the whole world not silent in listening? Be still, feel His presence and hear His glorious voice, praising Him that He would even desire to speak to us.
If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined there. The God who desires the forgiveness of all mankind (For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16) is calling out to you. Hear His voice and pray. Once you have prayed that prayer, please reach out to me and let me know so that I can be in prayer for you and can hopefully help you grow in your knowledge of and relationship with our Precious Savior – Jesus Christ.
Luv Ya!
