God is Glorified by the Weak Things of the World

God is Glorified by the Weak Things of the World

In 2011, a letter written by Albert Einstein went up for auction. The letter sold for $2.9 million dollars. The media called Einstein’s letter “the God letter”. This letter brought such a high value for two reasons. One of those reasons was obviously because Einstein wrote it. But the other reason was that it virtually put an end to any suspicion that Einstein believed in God. He wrote this letter to Eric Gutkind, a German philosopher. It was a very hostile letter. Mr. Gutkind had written a book entitled, “Choose Life: The Biblical Call to Revolt”. Einstein had apparently read the book and was not too fond of it. So, he wrote a letter lashing out at Mr. Gutkind. He apprised Mr. Gutkind of his personal feelings toward both his book and his faith.

We might think that this is incredibly rude. But this behavior is typical of atheists. They seem to feel that their opinions about God and faith should be heard, while the opinions of Christians should be silenced.

In 2012, an article was written about Mr. Einstein’s letter. It also addressed his overall view of religion. The article quoted Einstein as having said, “religion was motivated by weakness, fear, or vulnerability.”

The article went on to say that science supported Einstein’s view. It gave some statistics and then said, “One finds that the weakest countries, places that are miserably poor, where life is difficult, often violent, and brief, are the most religious.” It further stated, “Belief in God declines in more “developed” countries.”

I found the verbiage in Einstein’s letter and this article ironic. Because science doesn’t support Einstein’s letter. But both science and Einstein’s letter do support the SCRIPTURES!

God’s word indicates that God is glorified by the “weak” things of the world. “Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; And not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;” 1 Corinthians 1:26-27.

Is it a coincidence that one of the most intellectual men in history points out that it is the weakest peoples who are the most “religious” people? Of course not. There are no coincidences in the Kingdom of God. And the scripture says that God is glorified by the weak things of the world and those weak things will shame the wise.

Their attempts to prove that there is no God confirm that God’s word is true!

God desires that no one would have to pay the penalty for their own sin (even Einstein and others like him) because that penalty is eternal death. He desires that all would come to a saving knowledge of Him and spend eternity in Heaven with Him. “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance” 2 Peter 3:9.

But He gives us free will to choose. He didn’t desire to force us into a relationship with Him. He wanted us to choose one. “I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live” Deuteronomy 30:19.

Mankind has given birth to some very incredibly intelligent men; men such as Albert Einstein, Philipp Lenard & Steven Hawking. These men have several things in common. All three were brilliant. But they were also sinful men who rejected God. And all three were in desperate need of a Savior.

These men spent their entire lives trying to disprove an ultimate creator. They were trying to grasp something that cannot be grasped apart from a relationship with the God they were trying to disprove.

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.  For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.” 1 Corinthians 18:18-19.

And, in the end, these three men (and all of mankind) will meet the God that they tried to disprove face to face. “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:10.

For those who are followers of Jesus Christ, our job is to glorify God in such a way that those who don’t know Him would seek a relationship with Him too. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16.

Father God, thank You for the way that You reveal Yourself to us. Thank You that we can see Your handiwork in a sunrise. We thank You that we can see You in the face of a newborn baby. Father, forgive us for having rejected You. And Father, forgive those who are currently rejecting You. To quote our precious Savior, “they know not what they do.” We praise You, that You, Father God, are glorified through the weak things of this world (like me).

Glorify Yourself through us, Father. Encamp an army of Your people around those who do not know You and reveal Yourself to them, Father. Draw them away from the grasp of the enemy, Lord. Because we know that You desire that none would perish, Father. Create an insatiable desire within us, to glorify You to those who do not know and/or reject You. Use us to release them from the enemy’s grasp, Father. Thank You for Your sacrifice. Thank You for paying the penalty for our sins, Jesus. And thank You for rescuing us. We pray this in Your precious and Holy name, Jesus. Amen.
