God equips us all

God Equips Us All

Sometimes we all feel ill-equipped. And, when it comes to serving and doing things that have an eternal impact for God, it can be more humbling. Perhaps, we might even feel incapable. But God equips us all. “And behold, I have appointed with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you.” Exodus 31:6. It is important to note that the word “make” in this verse is the Hebrew word, Asha. Asha means “to do, fashion, accomplish, make”. God really does equip us all with the ability to make, do, fashion, and accomplish all that He has commanded us.

Personally, I struggle mightily with self-confidence. My nature is to always question my own abilities and actions. Because of my lack of self-confidence, it is only through the leading and strength of the Holy Spirit that I can even agree to attempt anything that God calls me to. But if it is truly for God, that is the only way that any of us can accomplish anything… in His leading, power, and strength.

Our main verse is from Exodus 31:6, but it pertains to all men. Because God equips us all.

In Exodus 31 (and throughout a number of previous chapters) God has been giving direction for the creation of the Tabernacle of Meeting, the Ark of the Covenant, the Mercy Seat, as well as furnishings and some other items.

For all intents and purposes, the Tabernacle of Meeting was a mobile or portable temple. It could only be entered by the priests. Inside, it contained the Holy of Holies, which was where the presence of God would appear. Only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies once a year.

The Tabernacle of Meeting also housed the Ark of the Covenant. The Ark of the Covenant represented the presence of God with His people and was designed specifically to house the tablets of The Ten Commandments.

The lid of the ark formed a seat between two cherubim. This seat was called the Mercy Seat. It was a depiction of where God would meet with His people (Exodus 25:22).

This structure was to house the very presence of God. It was where He would meet with the High Priest. You can imagine how significant it was to God and the people. Indeed, it was vital to the spiritual lives and health of God’s people.

That, I believe, is why it took multiple chapters to describe every aspect of its design and all that God required of it. God gave direction down to the most minute detail. God even designed the garments worn by the priests. Everything was to be perfect. Wood, silver, bronze, gold, and jewels were all part of the design. It was to be exquisite.

And God chose Bezalel to design and oversee the work that He was requiring. “See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.” Exodus 31:2-5.

The work that Bezalel was called to had to be overwhelming. Because of the magnitude of the work, the detail, and whom the work was being done for, the pressure of being the man chosen to design and oversee the creation of the earthly dwelling place of God must have been great.

Bezalel was not just the foreman of the project. He was also a man skilled in working with wood, gold, silver, bronze, and in the cutting and setting of jewels.

How many men do you think could say that? These were really unique and complex skills.

Several men may have been capable of working with all of the components being used. But there was only one man who was skilled enough to do the work that God was requiring. Because Bezalel’s skill was God-given, only he was equipped and able to accomplish all that God desired. He was a jack of all trades and master of all. That God was calling him to do!

In verse 31:3, we see that God says, “I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, understanding and knowledge” and “in all manner of workmanship”. Therefore, God knew what He was going to require of Bezalel. So, through the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, He equipped him fully to do it.

But God didn’t ask Bezalel to do it alone. “And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;” Instead, He gave him an equally prepared and equipped assistant.

God hand-picked these two men. He chose them to create one of the most important dwelling places the world had yet seen. This dwelling was not only the place that God himself would inhabit. It would also go with the Israelites throughout the remainder of their 40-year journey. And it would be the place that God would work to maintain and restore their faith. Because God knew His plan and what He wanted to accomplish, He chose, equipped, and prepared these men to do it! And He calls and prepares us too. God equips us all.

Yes, God did choose, equip, and prepare these men to do the work that He called them to. But they also had to have faith that they could do it. And they had to have faith in God’s leading. We know that Bezalel performed and completed the work. Therefore, His faith must have been GREAT!

Ephesians 2:10 is one of my favorite verses because it says that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, for the works that He (God) planned beforehand for us to do. This should cause us to have faith too.

God chose Bezalel and Aholiab for the work that He wanted to be done. And God has also chosen us for the work that He wants us to do as well. It is work that will glorify God. It is work that will have an eternal impact as well. And, just like Bezalel and Aholiab, God has prepared and equipped us to do it!

The question is, do we believe God and His word? Or, do we believe the lies that the enemy continues to use to discourage, dissuade, and deceive?

There is a minimum of 5 verses that reference our ability to be able to speak to a mountain and tell it to move and that mountain would relocate. “And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen” Matthew 21:21.

But the key to every one of those verses — and the power behind our ability to do it — is faith. There is nothing that we cannot do when God calls us to it as long as we have faith! It is not in our strength and power that we are moving, it is in God’s. He equipped Bezalel and Aholiab to do all that He was calling them to do. And, God equips us all, to be able to do what He is calling us to.

So, will we stop doubting? Will we stop listening to the enemy’s lies? And will we stop procrastinating and resisting God’s leading and desire to use us? The God of all creation wants to enlist you in doing specific tasks that He uniquely equipped and chose for you to do.

Therefore, be humble and honored and have faith. And say, “Yes, Lord. Here I am. Send me.” “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” Isaiah 6:8.

And, remember that there is nothing that God calls us to, that we cannot do.
“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13. God equips us all.

Father God, we praise You that You can even use such broken vessels as we are. And we praise You that, beforehand, You chose and equipped us to do works that would have an eternal impact and that would please and glorify You! Father, forgive us for procrastinating. Forgive us for doubting. Forgive us for listening to the whispers of the enemy and not to Your Holy Spirit’s leading and what your Holy word says. Father forgive our unbelief. Help us in our unbelief Lord. “Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:24 (NIV).

Therefore, “I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength for my work. I thank him for considering me worthy and appointing me to serve him.” 1 Timothy 1:12.

Let us praise Him. Let us have faith and let us work diligently, without doubt, to accomplish what He is calling and has prepared for us to do. “Work hard and do not be lazy. Serve the Lord with a heart full of devotion.” Romans 12:11. Because God equips us all.
