Faith Like a Child
He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And He said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:2-4
One of our children walked away from the Lord when they became a young adult. Soon after they ended up with a child out of wedlock. As a prodigal child, we were not afforded many opportunities to see our child or our grandchild. Many, many prayers were lifted up for our child and our grandchild during this time.
When ever we were afforded an opportunity, God was always faithful and allowed us to have conversation about the Himself.
Our grandchild was being raised not to believe in God. And nothing is more scary than worrying about the eternal souls of your children and/or grandchildren.
As God would have it some circumstances changed and we were suddenly, on Easter weekend, given an opportunity to spend time with both our child and grand child.
Our grandchild’s biggest concern was weather the Easter Bunny would know where he was. After convincing him that he probably would not, imagine his glee when he walked out the front door on his way to sunrise service to find Easter Eggs hidden in the yard.
So as not to be late for sunrise service he hurriedly gathered all of his eggs and put them into his basket, which also contained a bible, and got into the car. He gave his mom the first egg and asked her to open it and was quite surprised to find that along with the candy, a note fell out. It was a simple note that just said, Jesus loves you. He quickly handed all of his eggs to his mom and asked her to open them. She sorted the notes from the candy and handed him the candy and he said “I don’t want that, I want you to read me the notes”. One by one she read them, “God thinks you are awesome”, “God wants you to pray and talk to him”, etc.
By the time we got to church, he had become excited about God. As Pastor preached his sermon, our grandson pulled on my pant leg and wanted to know where pastor was in the bible so he could be in the same place. He couldn’t even read, yet he just HUNGERED after God. If someone was talking about him from the bible, he wanted to be where ever they were.
Within weeks the circumstances in our child’s home would become chaotic and through the faith and prayers of that little boy, his mama would come back to the Lord.
I learned more through the faith of my grandson than I think I have ever learned from any sermon.
This child who had been raised to believe that God is a myth, once given an opportunity to know Him, became sold out in the blink of an eye. Jeremiah 29:13 says that You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. When that little man saw that first note about God, he sought Him will all of his heart, he wanted every note read to him, he wanted to follow in the scripture to learn about him and in just a few days would be offering to pray for his mom, because she and God “were not talking right now”.
Oh, to have that faith! With all that God has done in, for and through me, you would think that I would possess that kind of faith and at times I guess I do. But, I am a sinner saved by grace and there are times when I am not as close to God as other times or when my faith is not as strong as it should be. But the remedy is simply seeking Him with your whole heart, the way our grandson did.
I pray that today, you have the faith and hunger for the Lord that our little grandson exhibited and that it continues to grow stronger and stronger every day.
If you are seeking a relationship with the Lord, I would encourage you to go to our life preserver page and pray the prayer that is outline there. Then shoot me an email and let me know, so that I can be praying for you and assisting you in getting connected to other believers who can support you.
Love you,
