“From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. So also, when you see these things taking place, you know that he is near, at the very gates”. Mark 13:28-29

Have you ever heard someone say, “they just buried their head in the sand”? It means to pretend something isn’t happening.

It use to be believed that ostrich, when they feared danger, would bury their heads in the sand. This was a ridiculous premise and has, since, been found to be a myth.

How would a creature, as big as an ostrich, benefit by burying its head in the sand if a predator were threatening it? It would quickly be devoured.

It’s the same way for us. We gain nothing by burying our heads in the sand, or ignoring the inevitable. Such as Jesus return and the end times.

The scriptures address (in many verses, I.e Matthew 24, Mark 14 and Luke 21) the things that will transpire as we draw closer to Jesus return.

Now, a lot of people will say “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” Matthew 24:36. And they will use this verse as a reason that we should not focus on the end times and when Jesus will return.

But, don’t bury your head in the sand.

That is not what Jesus said, or intended. In fact, He said just the opposite. He said, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. Matthew 24:42-44

He warns us that, BECAUSE we do not know the day or the hour that He will return for us, we should be watchful and waiting for His return.

He says in John 14:29 “And now I have told you before it takes place, so that when it does take place you may believe.”

We must Study the word of God, we must Be Aware of the things that will occur as we approach the end times, We must be watchful for our saviors return.

Our savior did not outline the things to come and tell us “Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”. Matthew 24:44, So that we would bury our heads in the sand and disregard his warnings.

I pray that today we would desire to know every word that our Savior has said to us in His word. I pray that we would desire to be aware Of those things that he has told us to watch for. Not just for our well being, but that we would recognize the urgency for our friends and loved ones to come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord. Read His word and share Him with those around you because you do not know the day or the hour.
