Jeremiah 29:13 “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
As I sat in front of the computer this morning, preparing to spend time in the word and journal and do our blog I turned on the computer. I was attempting to connect to the Internet, but to no avail. While my husband and I were away we had disconnected the Internet and I realized, as I sat there, that there was no way to complete the blog until I rectified that.
Until that connection was back up and running I wouldn’t be able to complete
the blog. I wouldn’t be able to connect to the resources I use to do research for the blog. I was even disconnected from some of you who read the blog. Because it’s my only way of communicating with some of you.
It’s not like this is the first time I’ve been disconnected from the Internet. We live in a rural area so sometimes the power goes out and we’re disconnected. Or we have a bad storm and we’re disconnected. Or our satellite gets covered with snow or ice we’re disconnected. A tree grows in the spring and leaves begin to block the signal again, we’re disconnected. There are a lot of reasons why we might become disconnected but the bottom line is until I restore that connection we’re just not gonna have any Internet service and I’m not going to be able to do anything that requires internet service.
It’s the same way when we’re disconnected from God .
Just like with our Internet connection there are a myriad of reasons that might cause us to become disconnected from God. Maybe there is sin in our life and until we repent from it our connection to God is hindered. (“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” – Acts 3:19).
The enemy will use the busyness of life to hinder our connection to God (But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”.“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” Like 10:40-42).
Doubt and a lack of trust Can disconnect us from communication with God. (But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” Matthew 14:30-31).
There are many other reasons that we might become disconnected from God but the bottom line is until we restore that connection it’s like being in a boat, lost at sea, without sails, paddles or motor. We will have no idea where we’re headed, no purpose, no identity, and worst of all… no Jesus
The good news is, if we’re followers of Christ, nothing can take away our salvation. (I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me,is greater than all[a];no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.” John 10:28-30).
But we can become so distant from God that it feels like we’re an ocean away.
God wants to restore that connection (“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20). This particular verse is actually pretty perfect in that it was addressed to the Laeodicean church, Who had lost their fire and their zeal for the Lord. And he clearly says He wants to come in, He wants to restore that relationship.
I pray that today we will take the time to sit at the feet of the Father and just breathe him in. That we would sit quietly at his feet and listen for His voice. That we would trust him to work out (For our good and His glory) any trials that we might be facing today, And that we would trust that He will defeat any giants, or Goliaths, that we might be facing today. Most of all I pray that He would restore our relationships with Him, revive our spirits, and allow us to testify to his goodness and the depth of His love for us and the world around us.
If you do not know the Lord as your personal Lord and Savior I pray that today you will go to our life preserver page and pray the prayer that is outlined there.
