Did Jesus Really....

Did Jesus Really…

A few years ago, I heard someone say that Betsy Ross neither made, designed, or had anything to do with the first American flag. I thought it was just rhetoric. After all, I was always taught that she was, in fact, asked by George Washington to create it. But then, I did a little research. I found several articles indicating that there was “no credible historical evidence — letters, diaries or newspaper accounts,” to prove that Betsy Ross had anything to do with the creation/design of the first American flag! I couldn’t help but think, if those were the requirements for historical evidentiary proof, we would all be wondering, “did Jesus really…” fill in the blank.

We would doubt that He did any of the things that we have read in the scripture. Because there are certainly no letters, diaries, or newspaper accounts of all that He did while He was here.

Isn’t it odd that, when people still remembered who designed and made the first American flag, no one opposed the story that Betsy Ross created it? The family of the person who did create it (assuming for a moment that she didn’t) never said, “Oh no. It was our relative who did it.” In fact, it took hundreds of years for “historians” to discover that there was no proof that Betsy Ross created the first flag. And their reasoning is that there is no “evidence” that she did.

So then, who did? Someone designed and created it. With all the research that these “historians” have done, who did they find actually created it? Who does the “evidence” support as the creator and designer of the first flag?

Oh, that’s right. There is no evidence that anyone else created it. So, “historians” decide that a story that has been told for hundreds of years is false because they can’t find any supporting documentation. But, if there is no evidence as to who did make it, perhaps it wasn’t made at all. Perhaps, it evolved from the protoplasmic ooze the way mankind did. Sorry… LOTS of sarcasm there 😉 .

Man has been doing the same thing with the Word of God and Jesus. If you typed the phrase “did Jesus really” into your search engine, you would find page after page of questions. Did Jesus really live? Did Jesus really walk on water? Or, did Jesus really rise from the dead?

Lee Stroble was an investigative reporter for the Chicago Tribune and set out to disprove that Jesus was raised from the dead. He felt that, if he could disprove that, the foundation of Christianity would crumble and his wife would stop following Christ. He is now a man of God, writer for God, and Pastor.

Dr. Antony Flew, an incredibly famous philosophical atheist, became a follower of Christ. After years of denouncing God (and Christianity as a whole), he said that he had “to go where the evidence leads.” He also stated that His atheism truly was provisional and “subject to correction by further evidence and further argument.”

The list of people who doubted the existence of a Savior and then came to know Him personally goes on and on. In fact, I’m sure that Heaven is filled with them.

A lot of the renowned atheists of the world who espoused disbelief in God and, in fact, tried to refute His existence, will probably be in Heaven. Although there are no “letters, diaries, or newspaper accounts” that could be used as evidence to prove that they are (lol). I think that is really neat. God still accepts death bed conversions. And, despite all the research they did, when facing death, it wouldn’t surprise me if they repented and are in Heaven when we get there.

Thank God that letters, diaries, or newspaper accounts that would prove as evidence of His existence are not a requirement for faith. The proof of God’s existence isn’t in letters, diaries, or newspaper accounts.

The proof of God’s existence is in a sunrise, the hand of a grandma, and the face of a newborn baby. It is all around us. “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” Psalm 19:1.

We don’t get to see or touch God this side of Heaven. It is through God’s grace (to forgive us) and our faith that we can have a relationship with Him. “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,” Ephesians 2:8.

Honestly, though, mankind spends more time trying to disprove truth than they do seeking it.

But, if they really wanted to find the truth, they would look to Jesus because He is the truth! “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6.

I have to confess, though. There are times when I ask, “Did Jesus Really…” Did Jesus really leave Heaven to live as a man for us sinners? Yes, He did. “For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will but the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. John 6:38-39.

Did Jesus really love me enough to die in my place? Yes, He did. “For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,” 1 Peter 3:18.

Did He really go to prepare a place in Heaven for me? Yes, He did. “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.” John 14:2-3. He did do that for me… and He did it for you too. And He sits at the right hand of the Father, waiting or us.

Jesus Really did leave heaven, suffered, died, and rose again so that you and I could be forgiven. Believe it! There are no dead atheists. We may doubt His existence in this life, but we won’t in the next.

Father God, we praise You for being such a good and loving Heavenly Father. We praise You that You desire that none would perish. And we praise You that You designed Your creation in such a way that no man would have an excuse for not believing in You. (“For, ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.” Romans 1:20). Father, forgive us for doubting. Forgive us for rejecting. Forgive us for rebelling. And forgive us for not telling others.

Lord Jesus, we praise and thank You for the example that You were for us. We praise and thank You for all that you endured for us and for the sacrifice that you made on our behalf. We love you, Lord.

Holy Spirit, thank You for the way that You assist us in resisting temptation. Thank You for leading us in the way that the Lord would have us go. Holy Spirit, break our hearts for those who doubt the gospel the way that Jesus’s heart broke for us before we knew Him. And the way His heart still breaks for them. Lead us to those who need His love. We pray this in Jesus’s Holy name.

Have you doubted God’s existence? Have you asked, “Did Jesus really do all the things that the scripture says He did?” So did I (and every other Christian). And we assure you that He did. Please go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined there. God wants to forgive your sins. He wants to reveal Himself to you and to have an intimate, personal relationship with you. And, through this prayer, He will do it. Just pray from the bottom of your heart and have faith. Then reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-N-Loved.com and let me know that you have. I’d love to be in prayer with and for you.
