Called to the Mission Field

“Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.” 1 Corinthians 15:58

When I first came to know the Lord as my personal Savior, I was so incredibly grateful for His forgiveness, that I wanted desperately to serve Him. I remember sitting in church and hearing about Missionaries in dangerous and dark places and praying to the Lord “I would go if you ask me”. I’d attend a women’s conference and hear wonderful speakers and I would pray “I would somehow find the courage to do that, if you ask me.” I would read a really good book about the writer’s life and testimony and I would say “I will try to write, if you tell me to Lord”. I wanted to do something BIG for God.

I loved being a wife and mother, but I just wanted to do something incredible for God.

Then, I heard a song on the radio called “Thank you for giving to the Lord”. It was about someone who dreamed that they and a companion went to heaven and people kept coming to up to his companion explaining that it was because of the message that they gave during the Sunday school they taught, or the love offering they gave to the missionary that came to their church as the reasons that they were here in heaven. It goes on to say “one by one they came as far as the eye could see, each one somehow touched by your generosity, little things that you had done, sacrifices made, unnoticed on the earth, heaven now proclaims, And I know up in heaven that you’re not supposed to cry, but I was almost sure that there were tears in your eyes as Jesus took your hand, and you stood before the Lord and he said my child look around you for great is your reward.

I have to confess that as I typed out these lyrics I cried. I cried the first time I heard this song and every time since. The Lord revealed to me that day that every task that we do for Him has an eternal and Kingdom impact. There are no little jobs where God is concerned and it is overwhelming to me that God can use a broken sinner such as myself to bring Him glory. I am so grateful that He would use me.

The scripture provides us with verse after verse, that tells us to work heartily for the Lord. “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” Colossians 3:23; “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up”. Galatians 6:9; “And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him”. Colossians 3:17; “He will render to each one according to his works”. Romans 2:6.,

The Scripture doesn’t say “If you are given a BIG job, work hard for the Lord”. Because every assignment from God is a Mission Field. Every job given us by God is a BIG job.

Whether you are a stay at home mom, a laborer, a secretary, a teacher or a taxi driver, you are in the mission field.

If we do our jobs as though we are doing them for God, it will be a testimony to those around us. If we value those around us and treat them as though they are important to us ( they better be important to us, because I assure you they are to God) they will be drawn to God through us. If we raise our children or love and serve our spouse, the way that God has called us to, it will have an eternal impact.

I pray that today, you would embrace every task, duty, relationship as though it is as important to you as it is to God. I pray that you would realize that you have been called to the mission field and God Himself is calling you to serve Him in every aspect of your life. I pray that when we arrive in heaven Jesus will take our hands, and as we stand before the Lord that He will say “my child look around you for great is your reward” because of the impact that we made for Him.

If you do not know Jesus as your personal Savior or where you are going to spend eternity, I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page and pray the prayer outlined there. If you do pray this prayer, please reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-N-Loved.com and let me know so that I can pray for you and help you grow in your relationship and knowledge of Him.

Luv ya!
