Are We Sharing or Proclaiming the Gospel?
And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14 ESV
In this particular day and age, the gospel appears to be an offense to most. The world doesn’t want to hear about our Jesus. If you are a christian who is “good”, “caring” and who turns the other cheek and is loving toward people, the world will accept that as long as you don’t talk about your faith. It is simply Jesus and the gospel that they don’t want any part of.
The world would have us believe that our faith should be lived out quietly and non-offensively, in a “politically correct” manner in which we keep Jesus to ourselves.
However, when we examine the scriptures, Jesus and His disciples were not quiet about their faith (And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15) and the reason that people were “offended”, was because they were convicted that their behavior was contrary to what God would have (Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth? Galatians 4:16).
A lot of christians, including me, use the term “sharing the gospel” when we tell people about Jesus and the plan that God has for us to be forgiven from the penalty for our sin, because Jesus paid the price at the cross. But, if we look at the scriptures, we will see that the term used is not “share”. We are not told in the Word of God to “share” the gospel. To share a belief is to simply tell someone what it is that you believe.
The Word of God uses the term proclaim, which is quite different from the term share. To proclaim actually means to declare or to preach. So to simply share the gospel the way we would a piece of pie (you take a little and I will take a little) is a lot different from declaring or preaching the Gospel of Christ.
Jesus Christ and the gospel are not something that you can take a little of and call it enough. You either take them in their entirety or you don’t accept them at all. Which then requires us to proclaim, declare and preach!
Now, there is still a way to preach the gospel to someone without being abrasive. When people are offended by the gospel, that is one thing. It is a completely different matter when we offend them. When we are proclaiming the gospel it is vital that we pray, whenever there is a break in the conversation, rely on the Holy Spirit and speak in love (not condemnation). (A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1).
I pray that today we would boldly live out and PROCLAIM the gospel of Jesus Christ. I pray that instead of sharing them like a piece of pie, we might proclaim them over a piece of pie. This life is ticking away and we are commanded to (And he commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one appointed by God to be judge of the living and the dead. Acts 10:42) proclaim the gospel. None of us are guaranteed a tomorrow, lets get motivated and proclaim the gospel as though a life depended on it (because the eternal lives of those around us do depend on it)! Father God, motivate us and guide our speech. Use us to advance your Kingdom LORD. We love you Father.
If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and if you have never asked Him to be Lord of your life, I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined there. God did not command those who love Him to proclaim Him, for His own good. He did it because He loves us and devised a plan that would allow Jesus to pay the price that we couldn’t pay, for the sin that we have committed. And, so that we could be reconciled to Him and spend eternity with Him. (“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 ESV). Once you have prayed the prayer on our Life Preserver page, please reach out to me and let me know so that I can be in prayer for you and help you grow in your relationship with and knowledge of our Precious Savior – Jesus Christ.
Luv Ya!
