Ambassadors

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20

In a sermon a few weeks ago, our Pastor referenced the fact that we are all ambassadors. Having read the entire Bible a number of times, I know that I have read the verses that indicate that we are ambassadors, but somehow it never stood out to me the way that it did during this particular sermon.

So, I felt led to look at the word ambassador a little more closely to see exactly what it meant to be an “ambassador”.

The old testament definitions of ambassador (depending on the verse) are “one who goes on an errand, an interpreter or a messenger. But in our main verse and in Ephesians 6:20, the term ambassador is said to be “figurative”.

The modern day definitions of ambassador are “a diplomatic agent of the highest rank accredited to a foreign government or sovereign as the resident representative of his or her own government or sovereign or appointed for a special and often temporary diplomatic assignment.” or “an authorized representative or messenger”.

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are ambassadors for Him, in every sense of the word:

1. We are “on an errand” (He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation Mark 16:15).

2. We are “interpreters” of God’s word (But know this first of all, that  no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. 2 Peter 1:20-21) but not through our own interpretation but, as the scripture was written through the leading of the Holy Spirit, so it is to be interpreted.

3. We are “messengers”, of the Gospel, for God (for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? Romans 10:13-15). We are called to take the saving message of the cross, into the world.

Even when we look at the modern day definitions we are “diplomatic agents of the highest rank ” (See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. 1 John 3:1). We are son’s and daughters of the God of all creation, how much higher could our rank be? And we are “authorized representative(s) or messenger(s)” (“As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world. John 17:18), we have been authorized and sent as messengers by the Savior of the world!

We are ambassadors. Hopefully, ambassadors for Jesus Christ. Because the reality is we are an ambassador whether for Christ or (when we stray) for the enemy.

We have been sent by God to make an impact on people so that they will desire to have a saving relationship with Him. But is it God that we are making an impact for? Or are we making an impact for ourselves (to make ourselves look better and be more popular), or is it for the enemy (if it is not for God IT IS FOR THE ENEMY) or is it for the God of Heaven and Earth (who alone is worthy of our service and honor)?

I pray that we would be incredibly mindful of the fact that we are called to be ambassadors for Christ. I pray that we would be even more mindful of the fact that when we are not messengers for Him, we are messengers for the enemy. I pray that when we begin to speak negativity, anger, fear, gossip, anxiety, that we would be so overcome by the leading of the Holy Spirit that we would stop what we are doing and begin to praise God for all that He is and has done for us and would then glorify Him, the way a good ambassador should. Father God, help us to live up to the high calling of being an ambassador for Christ.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined there. Our Heavenly Father longs to hear your voice. He desires to forgive you and love you more deeply than you have ever known. He wants you to be His ambassador and child.

Please pray this prayer and once you have, please reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-N-Loved.com, so that I can be in prayer for you.

Luv Ya!
