A Silent Partner

A Silent Partner

We may think of the Holy Spirit as a silent partner of the Trinity, but He is far more. He is all that we need, this side of Heaven for a victorious life.

We often talk about the love of our Heavenly Father and the sacrifice of our Savior. But we neglect to give as much attention to the Holy Spirit. We may think of Him as a silent partner of the trinity, but He is far more. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,” John 14:16

Prior to knowing the Lord, I had heard about God and Jesus. However, I had heard very little about the Holy Spirit.

My limited knowledge of the Holy Spirit caused me to think of Him as a silent partner of the trinity.

As I read the word of God for myself, I began to comprehend who the Holy Spirit really was.

He was so much more than a silent partner of the trinity.

I found that He was there in the beginning. He was with God and Jesus, and together, they created the heavens and the earth. “The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” Genesis 1:2.

God sent the Holy Spirit to convict the world of their sin and need for Jesus. “7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:” John 16:7-8

He was the author of prophecy and scripture. “For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” 2 Peter 1:21.

I finally began to understand that the Holy Spirit was a gift.

The moment we ask(ed) Jesus to be Lord of our lives, God sent the gift of the Holy Spirit. “And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Acts 2:38.

My knowledge and understanding of the Holy Spirit grew and grew, the more I read the scriptures. I now knew, that He was so much more than a silent partner of the trinity.

I found, in the word of God, that the Holy Spirit is our teacher. Given to us to teach us about the things of God. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:26.

The Holy Spirit strengthens us when we are weak. He leads us in how to pray and what to pray for. “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” Romans 8:26

He will give us the words to say when we are defending our faith. “For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” Matthew 10:20. And, because His desire is to rescue those who are still slaves to their sin, we should never stifle Him. “Do not quench the Spirit” 1 Thessalonians 5:19.

He has come to live inside us and is with us every moment when we become followers of Jesus Christ. We belong to Him. “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own,” 1 Corinthians 6:19.

We can never lose our salvation and we can never lose the Holy Spirit. He will never leave us. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,” John 14:16.

Our Heavenly Father, developed a plan to rescue us from the consequences of our sin because He knew that we couldn’t resist it. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 3:23. God’s love for us was so great that He sent His perfect Son to pay that penalty for our sin, with His life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16. “…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8.

Jesus willingly went to the cross. “He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.” 1 Peter 2:24.

The Father, then sent the Holy Spirit. Once we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit accompanies us throughout this earthly life. Jesus calls Him, “the Helper”. “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.” John 15:26.

He is our helper in every sense of the word. He is our teacher, prayer guide, defender of our faith, strength in our weakness. Through the Holy Spirit’s leading, the word of God was written. And He will never leave us. How much must our Heavenly Father love us? What great lengths He goes to for us!

The Holy Spirit is far more than a silent partner of the trinity. He is everything we need, this side of heaven, to live a victorious life. He deserves our gratitude, devotion, and honor.

I pray that we would understand and appreciate, in a new and deeper way, what our Father has done for us. I pray that we would understand and appreciate, in a new and deeper way, the sacrifice both Jesus and the Holy Spirit have made on our behalf. Jesus on the cross and the Holy Spirit in His willingness to indwell these sinful creatures that we are.

Father God, the depth of your love for us is overwhelming. Jesus the magnitude of your sacrifice is beyond our understanding. Holy Spirit, we thank you that you would indwell such sinful creatures as we are. We thank you that you would be all that you are, and all that we need, this side of heaven, to live victorious lives in Christ. Help us to lean on, trust, and heed your leading, Holy Spirit. May we glorify and honor you all the days of our lives, Lord. Be pleased with us, Father. Let all that we do be in reverence to you and for your honor and glory.
