They Sought the Savior

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”. Luke 2:15

When we look at the birth of Jesus in the book of Luke, we not only see our Saviors birth, but we get to see a group of shepherds hear about His birth and how they react to this long awaited news.

“So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.  He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.  While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,  and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.  An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.  But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.  Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.  This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:4-14

When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” Like 2:15

So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.  The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Luke 2:16-20

These shepherds were standing in a field, watching over the flocks that they had been give charge over. When, suddenly, angels appear and tell them that the Savior they had been told about by their fathers has come. He has been born and lies in a manger and they are told go find Him.

These shepherds didn’t have the bible to read, they didn’t have tv evangelists telling them about the Savior, they didn’t have commentaries, devotionals or Christmas stories and music. They simply had the prophecies that were taught to them.

Yet when they are told that their Messiah, their Savior, their redeemer has been born, they abandon everything to find Him. Once they do, they begin to “spread the word”, “glorifying” and “praising God”.

Our Savior too, has been born. Will it take a host of angels for us to seek Him?

We are about to celebrate the birth of the greatest thing that has ever happened to us, if we are followers of Jesus Christ. He, the King of Kings, was born a poor, infant, not some untouchable King on a throne. He lived a human life, resisting the temptation of sin, suffering abuse, rejection and death on the cross….to provide us with an opportunity for forgiveness, redemption and eternity in Heaven with Him.

Will we seek Him? If we do, just like the shepherds, we will find Him (You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart. Jeremiah 29:13).

He endured all that He did, so that we could be forgiven and have a personal relationship with Him.

I pray that today and throughout the remainder of the Christmas season, we would seek Him with all of our hearts. I pray that, like the shepherds, when we find Him (and we will) that we would spread the word, glorify and praise God. HE IS WORTHY!

Let’s share the greatest gift ever given…Jesus Christ, to a lost and hurting world. He is their greatest need.

If you do not know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior or the peace, love and forgiveness that He offers. I pray that you would go to our Life Preserver page (Forgiven-N-Loved.com) and pray the prayer that is outlined there.
