Training School

And so train the young women to love their husbands and children, Titus 2:5

I’ve mentioned before that when I was about 11 my mom left my sister and we didn’t see her for years. As a result I never really had a woman who helped me to understand what being a wife and a mother really looked like. No one taught me how to cook or to do laundry. No one taught me how to check my children for a fever by feeling their forehead or how to encourage my husband so that he felt that I valued him. I had to learn those things on my own and sometimes by having made terrible mistakes. I learned the hard way.

The Lord doesn’t desire that this should be the case however. He designed a Training School.

In Titus 2 we see a whole section of scripture dedicated to sound doctrine. This section of scripture instructs older men and women how, and what, to instruct younger men and women and how to be examples to them.

When I first became a follower of Christ and read Titus 2:5 where it commands older women to instruct younger women, I was very excited. I thought “finally, I’m going to have a spiritual mom who will teach me the things that my earthly mom never did.”

Unfortunately, having attended several churches over the course of my life, I never did find that spiritual mom who really had a heart for pouring into me. Which may be why I have such a strong desire to minister to and teach younger women and in fact women in general.

What my earthly mom failed to teach and what the church failed to provide, God provided for me, in the form of my precious mother-in-love.

My mother in law, who always called me her daughter-in-love, was the most virtuous woman I had ever known. She bought me my first bible and was my encourager to memorize the books of the bible. I never heard a curse or cross word escape her lips and she had a gift of loving a complete stranger as though they were her own dear child. Oh, how I miss her.

In Titus 2:3-5 it says that older women should “be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children. That epitomized who my mother-in-love was.”

I want to be her when I grow up ; )

I pray that the Lord would allow me to have, on the women in my life, the impact that my precious mother-in-love had on mine. I pray that we women and men would all realize that there are younger men and women in our lives (no matter how old or young we are) and that we are COMMANDED to be a Titus 2 model and mentor in their lives. I pray that we would all desire to pour the love, knowledge and teachings of God into those whom He has given us and be both a student and a teacher in God’s training school.

If you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior and you have never had anyone pour the things of God into your life, please go to our Life Preserver page (https://forgiven-n-loved.com/life-preserver/) and pray the prayer that is outlined there. Once you have, please reach out to me at admin@Forgiven-n-loved.com and let me know so that I can be praying for you. I would also love to begin my Titus 2 role in your life and help you to grow in your faith, knowledge of and relationship with our Precious Savior, Jesus Christ.

Luv Ya!
