Beauty Queen or Princess

Beauty Queen or Princess

Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30

I remember, as a little girl, watching the Miss America Pageant with my family. We would watch them, perform some sort of feat in the Talent Competition, listen to them answer the world events question, walk around and pose in their bathing suite and dress in the most gorgeous ball gowns I had ever seen, with hair, makeup and jewelry that you couldn’t take your eyes off of. They looked like princesses and every little girl wanted to be a princess! I would think, “Oh, how exciting it must be to take part in the Miss America Pageant!”

But, as I grew older my freckles came out. Then acne appeared. I was bigger than average, and not a tiny size 4. My hair was straight and not a pretty color. I was really quite average, at best. Certainly not a beauty pageant contestant.

Becoming a grown woman didn’t change much about my appearance, other than the fact that now I could camouflage my average looks with makeup and distract from freckles and the like with jewelry (hence that part of our verse that says charm is deceptive and beauty is fading : ). But underneath, I was still the same freckled, average girl.

My precious and incredible husband tells me all the time how beautiful I am. He asks what he can do to help me to see what he sees. The honest truth is that when I look at myself, I don’t feel “beautiful” (the way the world describes beauty) and if you are anything like me, you don’t see what the world would call beautiful looking back at you from the mirror either.

The funny thing is, that if you asked those pageant contestants about their appearance, I am sure that they would tell you about their imperfections and where they need work!

How sad is it that we rely on the world to tell us what beauty is when the one who created it says this about us…”you are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you (Solomon 4:7), Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed (Psalm 34:5), Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it (Psalm 139:13), For we are God’s masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10).

We are God’s masterpiece….The creator of sunrise and sunset, rainbows and flowers, mountain ranges and babies smiles calls us His masterpiece.

God tells us in 2 Corinthians 6:18 that He will “be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty”. We are daughters of the creator of every good and perfect gift, and our beauty, as daughters (princesses) of the King of Kings. Is found in Him, who is found in us!

The word of God hidden in our hearts, the Holy Spirit indwelling us and a humble spirit are what make us gorgeous in our Fathers eyes and these things are what He will use to glorify and draw others to himself.

I pray that today, you would recognize and understand fully how incredibly loved and beautiful you are in your Heavenly Fathers eyes. I pray that you understand that the sound of your voice (in prayer to Him) is a precious and beautiful sound that He longs for.

Embrace your Princess status, as a follower of Jesus Christ, and put aside the Beauty Queen insecurities. A Beauty Queen is merely an image, a princess is a loved and treasured daughter of the King.

If you have yet to be adopted into the family of Christ, by our adoring Heavenly Father, please go to our Life Preserver page and pray the prayer outlined their and commit your life to serving the one true God, who already loves you.

Bask in the love, adoration and devotion of our Heavenly Father today, my beautiful princess sister!

Have a wonderful day,

Luv ya!
